I released “Marigold” in October 2022 as the very first single from The Island – Part One. It set the tone for the album’s mix of nature, awe, and unease.

The title became a symbol for a fragile in-between state. A marigold is bright and stubborn, but in the song it’s also “not supposed to be here”—out of place, misread, or placed where it doesn’t belong. Underneath the beauty there’s a darker pulse: the sense of being chased by something vague but powerful, of hanging by a thread.

By the end I’m left with the question that scared me into writing it in the first place: if I’m stripped of what I think makes me human—comfort, status, safety, even identity—what do I turn into instead?

Lyrics

Flat out on green gras
Some stars are aligned
A stone is on a trespass
And the moon is confined
By the sun and all its powers
Fencing us in
With the intent of making stardust
Of everything
Of anything
Lying in the green grass
With a swollen chin

Running through the forest
The Eurasian belt
This random day in august
Covered in welts
The Taiga is a youngster
12.000 years old
And I’m a piece of soil soon
It’s beyond my control
A Marigold
You do not belong here
Or so I’m told

All the pretty flowers
Light up my eyes
As I run and run for hours
Down below the blue sky
And I will run forever
But I hang by a thread
Some had too much power
And they wanted me dead
With all that said
When I’m no longer human
What have I become instead?
